Why Prevaricate, You Korean Translator?

[a kind of father love in such relationships.]:1)이 부분을 “...부성애...” 운운하고 있으나 오역입니다. 이른바 ‘부성애’란 아버지뻘 되는 사람 쪽에서 그 자식을 또는 자식 또래를 사랑하는 마음을 말하는 것이죠. 2)여기서는 미국에 있는 작중 주인공 영거 박사가 독일의 프로이트 박사를 사모했다는 것이니 적힌 대로 “이런 관계에는 아버지에 대한 사랑, 즉 아버지를 그리워하는 마음이 있다”라고 해야 하는 것입니다.


[my anticipated withdrawal]:1)이 부분을 역자는 “내가 거절하리라 기대하고서”라고 옮기고 있으나 물론 오역입니다. 'withdrawal'에 ‘거절’의 뜻은 없습니다. 2)영어는 관계입니다. 단어, 구, 문장, 단락의 의미 맥락을 “관계 속에서 파악”하는 훈련을 한국의 영어지도자들은 해야 합니다. 영어가 이 나라에 도입된지 100 수십 년이 되는데도 영어를 관계에서 볼 줄 모르고 그저 사전상의 정의를 막연하게 대입할 줄밖에 모르니 참으로 답답합니다.


[I will take myself away from you=>my anticipated withdrawal]:1)이런 관계가 대번에 눈에 들어오지 않는단 말입니까? 앞뒤 진술은 같은 말을 반복하는 것에 지나지 않는 것입니다. 좀더 부연한다면, 앞의 진술을 뒤에서 요약. 재정의하고 있는 것에 지나지 않는 것입니다.


[Thus you forestall my anticipated withdrawal by denying the Oedipus complex.]:1)역자는 이 부분을 “그래서 오이디푸스 콤플렉스를 부인함으로써 내가 거절하리라 기대하고서 미리 선수를 치는 걸세.”라고 옮기고 있으나 오역입니다. 전혀 아니죠. 전혀 무슨 말을 하는지 알 수가 없게 돼 있습니다. 이 부분의 바른 번역은 “그래서 자네는 나의 오이디푸스 콤플렉스 이론을 부인함으로써 내가 미국을 떠나는 걸 막아보려고 한 것일세.”라고 옮겨야 하는 것입니다. 2)이 부분 해석:오이디푸스 신화와 그 신화를 정신분석학에 원용한 프로이트 이론에 의하면 아들은 본능적으로 어머니와 가깝고 아버지를 미워하는 심성이 존재합니다. 신화에 의하면, 이 비극의 주인공은 아버지를 살해하고 그 어머니와 잠자리를 같이 하게 되는 것입니다. [살인의 해석]의 주인공이자 화자인 영거 박사는 프로이트의 정신분석학 이론 중에서 오이디푸스 이론을 거부하고 있는데, 이 행위의 심리적 기저에는 “결코 아버지를 다시는 죽이지 않겠다”는, 즉 “‘아버지같은 프로이트를 배신하지 않겠다’는 마음이 깔려있다”고 프로이트는 작중에서 해석하고 있는 것입니다.

[comments]::1)"A kind of father love" in this case deos not mean a paternal love. In other words, a paternal love distinguishes itself from {{a kind of father love.}} The former indicates a father's love of his offspring, whereas the latter indicates children's love of their fathers. The translator has a problem with the orientation toward which the filial emotion is directed.


2)A translator should take note, among all things, of the characteristics of a paragraph. Then you will realize that there is a format of statements in the paragraph. Can't you see a statement=>concept format?


3)The point is that the phrase {{the cathexis}} is the summary of the preceding two sentences and the phrase {{my anticipated withdrawal}} is that of the immediately preceding sentence. The summaries are also logically termed the concepts. Which knowledge will help you transmit correct versions to your vernacular readers.


4)It gets me stupefied when I see the translator prevaricate on the statement {{"Thus you forestall my anticipated withdrawal by denying the Oedipus complex."}}Why can't he see that the sentence is nothing but a restatement of the preceding statement {{"You fear I will take myself away from you, as your real father did."}}?


5)As a contextual result, what the author means by the phrase {{my anticipated withdrawal}}is Protagonist Freud's departure from New York, and subsequently from Protagonist and Narrator Younger. To elaborate, Freud, in the face of the rejection of his cherished Oedipus Complex by his American adherent, does not take it personally, nevertheless analyzing (=realizing) the underlying love toward his deceased father and subsequently Freud himself behind Dr. Younger's denial of the theory.
